News: FLOOD RELIEF: Water donations accepted at all Roane State campuses

Bottled water donations for flood victims.

September 30, 2024

Roane State Community College is joining other Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) institutions and organizations across the State of Tennessee to collect water for victims of the recent flooding from Hurricane Helene.

RSCC students and employees can bring donations to any Roane State campus until further notice. Members of the local community are invited to donate as well. Signage will soon be posted at campuses directing donors where to go. Accepted donations include any kind of drinkable bottled water, which is of critical need right now.

"Homes have been damaged, families displaced, and lives disrupted. As we begin to understand the scale of the damage fully, it’s clear that our community needs our help," TBR Chancellor Flora W. Tydings said. "While we’re focused on providing critical support, the road to recovery will require sustained resources."

At the Roane County Campus in Harriman, the water donation drop-off and collection point will be inside the Gymnasium near Room G-200. At the Oak Ridge Campus, water donations can be dropped off at the front desk inside the Coffey/McNally Building.

At all other sites, donors should coordinate with the front desk or follow posted donation signage. Please call the college's main phone line at (865) 354-3000 if you will need assistance with your donation.

The Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) is coordinating with all its colleges to ensure donations are transported to those in need in upper East Tennessee. If you would prefer to provide a monetary donation, TBR has established a Flood Relief Fund to help with the recovery.

"Your donation, regardless of size, can make an immediate difference," Chancellor Tydings said. "Every contribution helps to provide emergency aid, including food, shelter, and supplies for those most affected by the disaster."

The fund is accessible through the Flood Relief Fund tab at the top of TBR.edu or directly at tbr.edu/advancement/tbr-emergency-assistance-fund. Additionally, Walters State Community College and Northeast State Community College have established storm relief funds.

"Every act of generosity brings hope and strength to the recovery process. Join me in sending our thoughts and prayers to our college family in Northeast Tennessee," Chancellor Tydings added.

Donations of bottled water are also being accepted at any Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) location. In Nashville, donations may also be dropped off in the first floor lobby of the TBR Central Office located at 1 Bridgestone Park, Nashville, TN 37214.
