News: Sports rewind: Herman has trio of strong games

Sports rewind is a look back at recent results for Roane State’s men’s and women’s basketball teams.

Roane State women

The Raiderettes went 2-1 last week to improve their record to 12-10.

Roane State started the week with a 71-44 victory over Lindsey Wilson JV on Jan. 24. Jill Herman (16 points), Shannon Parks (16 points) and Crystal Garrett (15 points) scored in double figures. Parks added nine rebounds, and Kristina Stephens had seven assists.

Roane State fell to Southwest Tennessee 87-74 on Jan. 27. Herman led the Raiderettes with 18 points and eight assists followed by Takyah Gilmore (14 points), Garrett (11 points) and Stephens (10 points). The team bounced back with a 76-67 victory over Dyersburg State on Jan. 28. Herman had a team-high 18 points. Gilmore scored 15 points, and Batista added 12 points.

Roane State men

The men’s basketball squad (16-5) fell to Southwest on Jan. 27 and defeated Dyersburg State on Jan. 28. The Raiders are tied for first place in the conference with Jackson State and Southwest.

In the 97-84 loss to Southwest, freshman point guard Troy Burris hit a career-high four three-pointers and racked up 10 assists. Sophomore forward Kinard Gadsden-Gilliard settled back into form after struggling with a back strain last week. He poured in 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Freshman forward Kevin Altidor contributed 15 points and seven rebounds.

In the 87-71 victory of Dyersburg State, Altidor had a career-high 23 points (including 9-of-9 from the charity stripe). Sophomore guard Jonathan Maybank tallied 19 points and six rebounds, and sophomore forward Cedric Clinkscales added 16 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Gadsden-Gillard also had a strong all-around day with 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
