Roane State associate professor of business Brad Fox was selected as a recipient of the 2014 Harold Love Outstanding Community Involvement Award.

Administered by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, the award recognizes students, faculty and staff for their volunteer work, public service and for their leadership in community organizations. Five students and five faculty or staff are selected each year from institutions across the state. Recipients receive $1,000.

According to Fox, “When I first started as a faculty member for Roane State, I was struck with how significant a role the institution played in all the counties of our service area. ‘Community college’ really means being involved and engaged in your local community.

“In addition to my primary responsibility of teaching students, I feel compelled to be involved in community activities that promote economic and workforce development. This helps me be aware of current issues and expectations from employers that can better ready our business graduates. It is also a great way for anyone to be better connected with their community.”

Fox is on the board of the Youth Achievement Foundation, which facilitates Junior Achievement programming in the Cumberland County School System. He is the chairman for the Obed Watershed Community Association.

He also recently completed his term on the Crossville-Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors and served a year as its chairman.

Fox is the organizer of the annual Mind Your Own Business Youth Entrepreneurship summer camp and is committed to entrepreneurial initiatives at Roane State.

“It is an honor to be a recipient of the Harold Love Outstanding Community Involvement Award,” Fox said. “My involvement with others in the community has truly been rewarding, and I strongly encourage our students and others to seek out volunteer opportunities to build their skills and abilities along with their network.”
