Project 6 line and calligraphy

Using bold gestural marks and a limited color palate create a finished work on an 18x24 heavy paper or board. This work should be non objective and should be about the energy and process of mark making. The work is about your interaction with the surface and how you treat it.

Textbook: Launching the Imagination by Mary Stewart

Objectives: Upon completion of this
course you should:

-Have a thorough understanding of the principles and elements of design

-Have experienced a wide variety of color application tools and media.

-Be able to implement the use of color for specific functions in a work of art; and use relationships that
occur between color to support the total intent of the work.

-Develop basic skills in creating works of art involving color
through the use of drawing, principles of art, and problem-solving techniques.

Toward the completion of these objectives, students will demonstrate a
set of competencies in this class. Students not passing 60% of these
competencies will not pass the course.

Grades: While demonstration of 60% of the competencies is required to
pass the class, actual grades come from these criteria:
70% Originality and effort put into the assignments
20% Quantity of assigned work produced.
10% Written Test

Attendance: Attendance is mandatory. 5 absences your grade drops a
letter. 6 absences your grade drops another letter. 7 absences
automatic failure of the course.

Absences accrue from the first scheduled class meeting, and late
arrivals and early departures are considered half absences.
Additionally, written excuses, such as those from a doctor are
unnecessary. All students have a number of absences they can use for
such purposes. If students must exceed the allotted number of
absences, they will not fulfill the course obligations or adequately
learn the material.

When students miss an excessive number of classes they are advised to
withdraw from the class under the "Withdrawals and Honorable
Dismissals" section as described in the RSCC catalog. However,
students who receive financial aid should first check with the
Financial Aid Office before withdrawing to ensure that such action
does not jeopardize their aid or necessitate early repayment.

Class description: Most classes will begin with information on
particular concepts, technical information and examples. The work you
do in class which will demonstrate a specific competency on that
information, so it is very important that you are on time for class
every day and are prepared with the proper materials. You will be
making works of art that demonstrate specific competencies, that will
develop your aesthetic sensibility.
