Surgical Technology Program - Admission Point System

Admission Criteria Point System The following are the criteria used with the point weighting identified next to each criterion.

1. GRADES IN SCIENCE COURSES of the SURG DEGREE PLAN: (up to 12 points) POINT SYSTEM—

A = 4 points; B = 3 points; C =2 points

BIOL 2010 Human Anatomy and Physiology I 
BIOL 2020 Human Anatomy and Physiology II 
BIOL 2230 Microbiology

2. GPA in the SURG DEGREE PLAN: Points are awarded for completed Surgical Technology general education courses (>9 credit hours). (up to 10 points)

3.85 - 4.00 = 10 points
3.65 - 3.84 = 8 points
3.45 - 3.64 = 6 points
3.25 - 3.44 = 4 points
3.05 - 3.24 = 2 points
< 3.04 = 1 point

3. HEALTHCARE-RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE (up to 4 points)

> 10 years = 4 points
5-9 years = 3 points
2-4 years = 2 points
< 2 years = 1 point

Candidate must provide resume documenting current work experience, employers by the published application deadline. This information should be scanned and emailed in one document to hsnadmissions@roanestate.edu. The subject line should read “Surgical Technology Additional Documentation.”

4. NUMBER OF GENERAL EDUCATION COURSE CREDIT HOURS COMPLETED IN THE SURG DEGREE PLAN (up to 4 points)

26-30 = 4 points
20-25 = 3 points
12-19 = 2 points
> 12 = 0 points

5. ACT Scores: (up to 4 points)

> 31 = 4 points
28-31 = 3 points
24-27 = 2 points
20-23 = 1 point

6. INTERVIEW (up to 20 points) A score from 0 to 5 used to rate the candidate from each of the following four categories:

Scoring: Poor (0 points) Average (3 points), Above Average (4 points), Excellent (5 points)

Interview scores from 2 interviewers are averaged to determine the total interview points awarded.

Notes:

  1. Total scores of candidates determine the ranking of the ten (10) selected candidates for the incoming fall class.
  2. Candidates will be notified by RAIDERNET email of their selection status and must respond on or before the given response date. Failure to respond in the stated timeframe may result in the applicant forfeiting their selection for admission to the program.
  3. If applicant is not admitted and chooses to reapply for the next academic year, all program applicant materials must be resubmitted including a new AHS electronic application.
