Each graduating student is required by the Tennessee Board of Regents to take a test of general competency. This test does not affect one's graduating status; rather it is a measure of how well Roane State educates its students. Students are encouraged to do their best since Roane State's evaluation and future funding are based on student performance. Students are advised that failure to meet this graduation requirement will result in having the student's diploma held until this condition is met.
All students seeking an A.A.S. Business Management Technology degree or an A.A.S. Contemporary Management degree must take the MAPP Exit Exam AND the Business Graduate Exit Exam prior to receiving a diploma. The BMT options include: Accounting, Business Administration, Business Management, Computer Science, Office Administration, and General Business.
Approval to take the Business Graduate Exit Exam will be granted by the Social Science, Business and Education Division. You must first file an Intent to Graduate and allow time for review and approval. Once you have been approved to take the BGE, it will appear in your Momentum account as an exam waiting to be taken. You MUST take your BGE at the Harriman or Oak Ridge campus as it requires as password only known by Testing Center employees. Please check your Momentum account prior to coming to the Testing Center to take the exam. The Testing Center cannot approve you for the BGE. If you have filed your Intent to Graduate and the BGE has not appeared on your Momentum after 3-4 weeks, please contact your advisor.
The BGE consists of 80 multiple choice questions covering the subject areas of: Introduction to Business, Accounting, Management & Supervision, and Computer Concepts. There is no study guide for this exam.
Please allow yourself 1 hour for the MAPP exam and approximately 2 hours for the Business exam.
Please keep in mind that walk-in testing is on a first come, first serve basis. You may come in anytime during the listed testing hours. MAPP & Business Exit Exams end promptly at the times listed so make sure that you give yourself ample time to complete your test -approximately 1 hour for MAPP, 2 hours for BGE.
