Praxis Core Requirements

Praxis I has been replaced with the Praxis Core test.

Students must complete the Praxis Core exam. The minimum scores for each section are 150 Math, 156 Reading, and 162 Writing. Praxis Core is not required if a minimum ACT score of 22 or SAT score of 1020 has been earned. Scores must be on the student’s official record. It is the responsibility of the student to make sure the scores are on record both at RSCC and at the university in which they plan to transfer. Praxis Core must be completed before receiving the AST degree.

For those students who have already begun to complete the testing requirements, a combination of the two tests (Praxis I and Core) will be accepted for a limited time. The grace period is as follows:

Praxis Information and Study Materials

Praxis Website

To access study materials from the Praxis website, click “Prepare for a Test” in the Quick Links section. Use the dropdown menu to select a test using the test name. The page will show a list of several test preparation materials for student use.

Students can buy study books from a bookstore. The Learning Center will also have access to study materials online. Please visit the Learning Center to learn more and receive access.

Praxis Test Waiver Information

If the student fails to receive the minimum score of 150 Math, 156 Reading, and 162 Writing on the first testing, 10 hours of tutoring per subject area not passed is required through approved tutorial support services for remediation purposes.  Students will be required to re-test and show improvement through documentation, which will be stated in a form from the person providing tutorial services.  For TTU 2+2 students, the first Praxis attempt should be no later than January of the year they plan to enter the TTU portion of the program.

The Praxis Core Waiver will be discontinued after August 1, 2016. No waivers will be granted after this date.

If the student fails to make required score(s) on the second attempt, the following guidelines apply for the students to be eligible to appeal testing requirements:
