What immunizations are required?

• All new students must complete the Hepatitis B Immunization Health History Form.
• New students who wish to register for full-time classes (12 or more credit hours) are required to provide proof of two doses of the Varicella (Chickenpox) vaccine.  This may be documented on the Certificate of Immunization Form.
• Any student who wishes to register for full-time classes is required to provide proof of two doses of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine. This may be documented on the same Certificate of Immunization Form, above.

How can I find my immunization records?

Check with:

• ...parents/guardians to obtain childhood immunization records.
• ...schools you have previously attended.
• ...your physician.
• ...the health department where you obtained your immunizations.

Hepatitis B

The General Assembly of the State of Tennessee mandates that each public or private postsecondary institution in the state provide information concerning Hepatitis B infection to all students enrolling for the first time. Tennessee law requires that these students complete and sign a waiver form provided by the institution which includes detailed information about the disease.

Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR)

The State of Tennessee requires full-time students entering colleges, universities, and technical institutes to provide proof of two doses of Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine.

Exemptions

• Students born before January 1, 1957
• Students who graduated from a Tennessee high school in May 1999 or any time thereafter

Temporary exemptions

• Students who are pregnant or breast-feeding may be exempt from vaccination on a term-by-term basis with written proof from a physician.
• Students who have received the first MMR vaccination within thirty (30) days of the first day of classes of student's initial semester of enrollment may be exempt from the second vaccination for one term with written proof from a physician and proof of a follow-up appointment to receive the second  MMR vaccinaton.

Chickenpox

Effective July 1, 2011, Roane State Community College is required by Tennessee state law to obtain proof of receipt of two doses of the Varicella (Chickenpox) vaccine, from all new full-time students prior to the first day of classes of students' initial semester of enrollment. Proof may be shown by immunization records, laboratory evidence of immunity, or a history of the varicella disease that has been documented from a health practitioner.

Students who are registering for less than full-time (less than 12 credit hours) are not required to provide proof of the immunization.

Exemptions

• This applies only to new, full time students. Currently enrolled students are exempt.
• Students born before January 1, 1980 are exempt.
• If you have graduated from a TN High School between 1999 and May 2016 it can be presumed that you've had one dose of the Varicella vaccine.

Temporary exemptions
