Subject: Paint Color Standards

According to OSHA standards all paints are classified hazardous materials and must be handled in a manner consistent with OSHA standards. Therefore, faculty and staff will no longer be allowed to paint their own offices. All spaces must be painted by maintenance personnel.

Paint Color Standards: In order to control the amount of paint stored and to preserve the aesthetic integrity of our campuses, standard color palettes are being established for use when painting college buildings.

NOTE: This change does not affect offices or public spaces as they are currently painted until a request is made to repaint at which time an approved color must be selected. If an employee leaves and his/her office is painted a color outside the approved palette, the incoming occupant has the option of keeping the existing color without any touchups unless the office is part of a public office suite.

All Campuses: Each building will have an approved color palette approved by the Executive Vice President of Business and Finance. Selections must be made from an approved list for each building.

Public Office Suites:Office Suites such as Admissions, Records, Business Office, Purchasing, Foundation, Alumni Relations, Financial Aid, Counseling, Deans Offices, etc and all individual offices within those suites are considered public spaces and are permitted the use of an approved accent color.Private offices within these suites may only use the standard color and/or accent color for that building.

Public Hallways: May elect to have one side painted with the approved accent color for their building. The other side must be the approved standard hall color.

Classrooms: Classrooms may add an approved accent color painted on one wall to maintain the aesthetic integrity of the building.

Private Offices: Private offices that are in public office suites must use the same color palette as is used in the public suite.Other individual private offices (primarily private faculty offices) are to select from the approved color palette for their building. If an accent color is used in these offices, the individual may choose from the accent colors listed for the Dunbar, Tech, or O’Brien building (this applies to the Roane County campus only).

Door Frames: Will be the standard hall color approved for the campus.

Paint finish: Paint finish for all offices shall be eggshell.

Newer Campuses (ORBC, Morgan, Campbell, Loudon, Cumberland, Knox & Scott): Approved colors were selected when initially built. New campuses should adhere to the existing color palette as currently painted.

Roane County Campus: Approved palettes are provided as part of this policy.

Fentress County Campus: May choose from the current paint in use or choose from the Roane County approved palettes with approval from the Executive Vice President for Business and Finance.

Any exceptions to this policy will be subject to the approval of the Executive Vice President for Business and Finance.
