What is the HESI-A2?

The Health Education Systems Inc. Admission Assessment Exam-A2 (HESI-A2) tests prospective nursing students in two main academic areas:  English (Reading Comprehension and Critical Thinking are subcategories of the English Language Composite Score) and Math.

The test is a multiple choice assessment that is timed and takes approximately 2 hours and 29 minutes to complete.

Who Takes the HESI?

The HESI must be taken and passed prior to the application deadline (the fourth Friday in January) for the traditional Nursing Program. If you have taken the HESI at another college you can submit those scores to the Nursing Division to determine if they are passing or not. RSCC waives the Nursing Pre-Admissions Exam requirement for applicants who have a college degree from an accredited college (SACSCOC or equivalent).

The application deadline for Fall 2015 was JANUARY 23, 2015. HESI exams taken after January 23, 2015 will be recorded and reported for Fall 2016 admission.

What is the Fee for the HESI?

The fee for the HESI Exam is $40.00 and is NON-REFUNDABLE. You may go by the Business Office/Cashier at the Roane County or Oak Ridge Campus to pay your test fee. Please remember to KEEP YOUR RECEIPT - you are required to present it to the testing proctor on the day of your exam.
The testing fee is non-refundable. Failure to cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours in advance will require a new testing fee. Cancellations prior to 48 hours will be allowed to retest within one academic calendar year at no charge. Please remember to retain your payment receipt if you intend on testing at a later date.
