If you plan to participate in the commencement ceremony, you must notify the graduation analyst by returning the Graduation Participation Form by Friday, April 12th. Students are not required to participate; however, it is encouraged. We will assume you do not plan to participate if we do not receive your form. The rehearsal will occur just prior to the ceremony. Graduates should come dressed and ready for the ceremony. We do not have storage facilities for purses, keys, or other personal belongings.
Following the rehearsal we will provide drinks for the graduates. We suggest that you do not leave campus between the rehearsal and the ceremony.
Students with outstanding financial obligations to the college (parking tickets, fees owed, overdue library books, etc) will not be allowed to participate in the ceremony. Please be sure that you have taken care of your college business.
Caps and gowns will be available at the Roane County and Oak Ridge Bookstores beginning Monday, April 22nd. There is no additional charge for the cap and gown and they are yours to keep. There is no need to be measured for the gown in advance unless you are above or below average height and weight. If you are in doubt, please contact either bookstore for additional information as soon as possible for special orders.
For those of you who have achieved academic honors (3.5 GPA or higher) you may purchase a gold honors tassel at the bookstore for an additional $8. The bookstore has a listing of students eligible for the gold honors tassel. Gold honors tassels may only be purchased at the Roane County Bookstore. Invitations are available for purchase now through the Roane County and Oak Ridge Bookstores.
Roane County Bookstore (865) 882-4671
Oak Ridge Bookstore (865) 481-2006
You are expected to dress professionally and comfortably. The graduation committee has the right to exclude a student from participating should they come dressed inappropriately. It is best to take your gown out of the plastic bag and hang up before wearing on the appropriate day!
All family, friends, and guests will be allowed to enter the athletic complex one hour before the ceremony begins.
Due to the early printing date of the commencement program, academic honors are based on the cumulative college-level GPA through the FALL semester. No exceptions will be made. After the calculation of spring and/or summer grades, all adjustments will be reflected on the final transcript and diploma.
Honor designations are as follows: 3.50 - 3.69 Cum Laude; 3.70 - 3.89 Magna Cum Laude; 3.90 - 4.00 Summa Cum Laude. Honors are not awarded to certificate programs. Honors are based only on college-level coursework completed at Roane State.
Grad Foto is the official photographer for graduation. Your picture will be taken after you walk off the stage as well as special photos with friends prior to the ceremony. Soon after the ceremony, you can go online to find your picture to order (http://www.gradimages.com).
If you have a disability that may require assistance during the ceremony, please contact the Disability Services Office at (865) 882-4546 immediately so accommodations can be made. Please note that only a very limited amount of disability seating for disabled guests/family members is available in the Mezzanine Area of the Gym on a first-come, first-serve basis. Additional seating for disabled guests is provided in nearby overflow rooms with the ceremony streamed for live viewing. See signage when you enter the Gym.
The commencement ceremony will be videotaped utilizing several cameras around the arena; all of the highlights of the ceremony will be captured. Orders will be taken at rehearsal and in the arena lobby before, during, and after the ceremony.
Diplomas may be picked up on the following dates from 8:30am to 4:00pm:
Roane County Admissions & Records Office – June 24 to June 27
Oak Ridge Graduation Office – July 2 to July 5 (campus closed July 4th)
All diplomas not picked up will be mailed starting July 31st. Please wait until mid-September to check if you have not received your diploma.
Students who need to have official copies of transcripts sent to licensing boards or other colleges/universities may request them through Raidernet, by completing a Request for Transcript form in the Records/Registration Office or at any site campus. Phone requests are not acceptable. Remember to check "After degree is posted" on the form since this is different than the end of the term.
Have you changed your name or address? Please notify the Graduation Analyst AND the Records/Registration office if any of your personal information has changed. We utilize the information provided to us by your Intent to Graduate Form. Students who fail to notify us before the printing or mailing of diplomas may be assessed an additional fee for a replacement to be issued.
Participation in the commencement ceremony does not necessarily mean you have graduated from Roane State! Final grades and final evaluations need to be completed prior to the granting of the degree/certificate. All course substitutions, final grades, exit exam (if applicable) and other college obligations must be completed by the end of your graduating term or the posting of your degree will be extended to future terms.
