HARRIMAN, Tenn. – The NJCAA recently announced that 13 Roane State athletes were named 2021 NJCAA Academic All-Americans.
To qualify for the NJCAA All-Academic Awards, student-athletes must maintain a grade point average of 3.60 or higher. An average of 3.60 to 3.79 is awarded with NJCAA All-Academic Third Team Honors. Second Team honors are awarded for an average of 3.80 to 3.99. First Team All-Academic recipients are required to have a grade point average of 4.0.
The following Roane State student-athletes garnered honors:

SECOND TEAM
THIRD TEAM
Roane State head baseball coach Cam Hamsely said, “It is a credit to our student-athletes, considering the difficult year that COVID brought – meaning, their All-American honors came within classes that were almost entirely in a virtual setting.”
Hamsley added, “We’re extremely proud of the standard these athletes set.”
Making the list for the first time was Lady Raiders basketball player Chloe Roark. She stated, “It is an amazing privilege to be honored, especially during this difficult year.”
The Crossville native added, “I’m very thankful for my family, friends, teammates and coaches for being there with me!”
Raiders baseball, softball and men’s basketball each accounted for three student-athletes on the Academic All-American teams. Men’s basketball landed two first team All-Americans and one second team member. Baseball had two first team All-Americans and one on the third team. Softball landed two spots on the second team and one on the third.
Lady Raiders basketball had one player on the second team. Volleyball had two players named to the third team, while men’s golf accounted for the final entry on this year’s third team.
The 13 student athletes named Academic All-Americans is one more than last year’s tally of 12. Jacob Naylor, Micah Fallin, Jackson Odette and Laura Lawson returned to the prestigious list for the second year in a row.
After participating in limited seasons last year, all Roane State athletics teams are returning to regular seasons for 2021-22. Volleyball is already underway with the golf teams next to swing into action, followed by men’s and women’s basketball and fall baseball and softball. Baseball, softball and golf will also compete again in the spring of 2022.
