Roane State was once again the top Tier 1 community college contributor in the 2022 TBR Annual Food Drive Challenge. A total of 16,731 items were collected by RSCC during the campaign.
Fifteen TCATs and ten community colleges submitted information for participation in this year’s challenge. In addition to food items, cash donations collected to supply campus and local food pantries were also calculated as two items per dollar raised.
Across the system, a total of 148,578 items were collected and donated to campus food pantries as well as local organizations, programs and food banks within our communities. That total far surpasses last year’s total of 132,701.
Institutions were grouped by student headcount to determine the top contributors. Here are the top institutions in each category:
Tier 1 CC: Roane State = 16,731 items
Tier 2 CC: Pellissippi = 47,788 items
Tier 1 TCAT: Jacksboro = 3,414 items
Tier 2 TCAT: Northwest = 3,826 items
Tier 3 TCAT: Dickson = 19,407 items
In addition to the food items collected, many institutions also participated in charitable giving events: TCATs Harriman and Shelbyville collected 3,558 and 1,465 food items for the local Veteran Affairs Administration and VFW, respectively, to distribute to veterans and their families. Volunteer State collected 28,021 items for their food pantry, Pellissippi State collected 228 toiletry and baby-care items, and TCAT Morristown donated items to Food on Foot for holiday food baskets.
Thank you all for such a visible demonstration of your support for students and our communities this holiday season!
