HARRIMAN, Tenn. – The Roane State Lady Raiders women’s basketball team picked up their fifteenth win of the season with an 80-65 conference win over Dyersburg State on Saturday.
The Roane women seemed to get back in shooting rhythm connecting on 21-of-51 shots from the field (49.2%), which is the best performance they have had in eleven games and the best of the season against a TCCAA opponent.
Only three days earlier, on a night were the Lady Raiders only shot 29% from the field, the team trailed at Walters St. at the end of the first quarter, 25-8.
Against the Dyersburg St. Lady Eagles, Roane State jumped out to a commanding 28-5 lead. By the half, the Lady Raiders had grown their cushion to 26-points, 43-17.
In the third frame, Roane State continued to build the advantage to 61-29.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Lady Raiders held their biggest lead of the night, 63-29, before Dyersburg attempted a comeback.
The Lady Eagles cut what once was a 34-point lead for the Lady Raiders to single digits, outscoring the Roane women 36-19 in the period. However, it would not be enough for the Lady Eagles as Roane State held on to win, 80-65.
Sophomore post player Kirby Brown led the Lady Raiders scoring attack with 18-points.
Freshman post player Signe Vogel Bang scored 15-points on the night, 13 of which came in the first half. The 15 points were a career high for the 6-foot 1-inch native of Copenhagen, Denmark.
Sophomore guard Bralyn McGaha tallied 12-points in the win, including a 2-for-2 effort from beyond the arc.
Freshman guard Lia Wright came off the bench to score 12-points, as well. It was Wright’s second consecutive game with double figures. Her 12 points matched her career high.
As a team, Roane State was 30-for-61 (49.2%) from the floor and 8-of-19 (42.1%) from three-point range.
The win improved the Lady Raiders season record to 15-3 and 6-3 in conference play.
Roane State currently holds sole possession of fourth place in the conference, behind the only teams to have beaten them this season: undefeated Walters St. (9-0), Chattanooga St. (8-1) and Cleveland St. (7-2).
Roane State returns to action on Wednesday at Motlow St. in Tullahoma, Tenn. Tip off for that game is slated for 5:30 p.m. Central.
