October 3, 2023
National Advising Day is celebrated each year on the first Tuesday in October. For 2023, Roane State is recognizing the important role advisors have in students' lives, their educational journey, and future careers.
As part of the celebration, Roane State is highlighting just a few of the college's wonderful advisors:
Dr. Julie Hall is a professor and program director of Radiologic Technology. She has been teaching at Roane State since 2008 and has more than 25 years of radiology experience. “I am passionate about working with students and helping them find a career path that best suits their personal goals. My favorite part of the advising process is watching students develop professional careers and increasing their skill sets."
Dr. April Insco is a professor and director of our Health Information Management/Medical Informatics program. She earned her Ph.D. last year and often refers to her own experiences as an adult student when advising others on how to achieve their academic goals. "I most enjoy helping the students figure out what they want to do and how we can help them get there.”
Dr. Michael Laman is a professor in the health science division. He has more than 40 years of higher education leadership experience and has served as an academic advisor during summer term for the past four years. He believes in the faculty advising process as a key to student success. "Making sure a student's academic goals and their course of study align is essential and beneficial to the student and the college alike. The summer advising program demonstrates our commitment to advising students anytime throughout the academic year."
Roane State thanks these advisors and all other advisors on our team for not only providing academic direction, but for going the extra mile to ensure students get the support they need to succeed.
