Roane State will host Sophomore Night honoring graduating student-athletes during the final home basketball games of the season on Saturday, March 2. A special recognition for a former assistant coach is also scheduled between the women’s and men’s matchups.
The Lady Raiders are scheduled to take the court at 2 p.m. ET, with the men’s game to follow at 4 p.m. ET. The visiting teams are from Dyersburg State Community College.
The Raiders are on a 10-game winning streak, most recently defeating nationally ranked conference rival Walters State on the road. With the victory, the Raiders moved to 14-3 in the conference and 21-6 overall. This marks the first time RSCC men’s basketball has achieved back-to-back 20-win seasons.
The Lady Raiders are hoping to end the season with a win over Dyersburg following a pair of away game losses. The team’s record for the season is currently 16-12, having won three of the last four home games.
In addition to Sophomore Night this Saturday, Roane State will host a special recognition for Carolyn Bush Roddy, one of the newest members of the TCCAA Sports Hall of Fame.
Roddy is a native of Kingston, Tennessee, and served as assistant coach for Roane State Women's Basketball in 1996. She was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2019.
After graduating from Roane County High School in 1971, Roddy played at Hiwassee College, earning All-American accolades during her two years on the Madisonville campus.
Roddy finished her playing career at Wayland Baptist College in Texas. Upon graduation, she was selected as a member of the 1975 Pan American Team which earned gold at the 1975 Pan American Games.
Another Tennessean on the 1975 Pan Am team was Pat Head (Summitt). Roddy would later join Coach Summitt's summer basketball camp coaching staff at the University of Tennessee in 1987 and continue as a camp instructor for 28 years.
Roddy also played basketball professionally for the Dallas Diamonds of the Women's Professional Basketball League from 1979 to 1982. Later, she would become head coach at Hiwassee College and served as head coach at Knoxville College for three years.
Upon her retirement, Roddy returned to Kingston where she currently lives her husband, Steve.
The special TCCAA Hall of Fame recognition for Roddy will be held at approximately 3:30 p.m. in the gymnasium at the Roane County Campus, along with the Sophomore Night celebrations throughout the afternoon and evening.
