Sports rewind is a look back at recent results for Roane State’s men’s and women’s basketball teams.
Roane State men
Jared Stephens scored 18 points to lead the Raiders (3-1) to a big 68-62 win over conference rival Walters State on Saturday, Nov. 12. Kinard Gadsden-Gilliard added 14 points and seven rebounds, and Cedric Clinkscales tallied 12 points and eight rebounds.
Roane State was red hot in the first half as the Raiders jumped out to a 48-36. The team’s defense stepped up in the second half with Troy Burris leading the way with four steals. Burris also had five assists.
The Raiders fell to Gadsden State 87-80 on Nov. 7.
Roane State women
The Raiderettes (2-1) struggled to find their shooting touch in a 71-38 loss to Walters State on Saturday, Nov. 12. Roane State shot only 22.7 percent from the floor. Kayla Gibson led the team with eight points.

Earlier in the week, Takyah Gilmore hit the game-winner with 1.2 seconds left as the Raiderettes defeated Gadsden State 78-76 on Nov. 7. Gilmore’s shot ended a furious rally as Roane State battled back from a five-point deficit in the last minute.
Tashia Biggs’s shot cut the lead to three, and then Kayla Kimes stole the ball and raced for a layup to make it a one-point game. Gadsden State added a free-throw to make it a two-point game, but a layup by Roane State’s Shynika Batista tied the score at 76. Gadsden State turned the ball over, setting the stage for Gilmore’s game-winner.
Four Raiderettes scored in double-figures: Jill Herman (16 points), Biggs (13 points), Gilmore (13 points) and Gibson (12 points). Gilmore also added 11 rebounds.
