The Coffey-McNally Building on the Oak Ridge Campus is closed and will reopen on January 25. Check RSCC email for more info.
************ PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND THOROUGHLY BEFORE REGISTERING FOR TESTING ************
Important information: on campus testing has resumed by appointment only. Please note that due to COVID-19, we will be practicing social distancing protocols with small group testing. You will be required to complete a Wellness Screening Questionnaire prior to arriving on campus. The Questionnaire must be completed on the day of testing, not before. On the day of testing, you can click here to complete the Questionnaire. You will also be required to wear a face mask. If you do not have a face mask, one will be provided to you. Failure to comply with either requirement will result in your inability to test on campus. Thank You, in advance, for your patience and cooperation.
When you click to register for a test and a date and/or time does not show up, that means the testing session is FULL and you will need to choose another location or date. ALSO NOTE: double bookings are not permitted. Please only register for ONE testing date. If you need to reschedule, please contact Jill Robbins at email@example.com.
The application deadline for Fall 2021 is January 22, 2021. HESI exams taken after January 22, 2021 will be recorded and reported for Fall 2022 admission.
The Health Education Systems Inc. Admission Assessment Exam-A2 (HESI-A2) tests prospective nursing students in two main academic areas: English (Reading Comprehension and Critical Thinking are subcategories of the English Language Composite Score) and Math.
The HESI must be taken and passed prior to the application deadline (the fourth Friday in January) for the traditional Nursing Program. If you have taken the HESI at another college you can submit those scores to the Nursing Division to determine if they are passing or not. RSCC waives the Nursing Pre-Admissions Exam requirement for applicants who have a college degree from an accredited college (SACSCOC or equivalent).
The test is a multiple choice assessment that is timed and takes approximately 2 hours and 29 minutes to complete.
Please contact the Nursing Department for questions regarding the HESI Exam and its involvement with the Nursing program.
The computer based HESI-A2 consists of the following two academic exams which are scored:
The computer based HESI-A2 also includes two non-scored assessments:
The fee for the HESI Exam is $40.00 and is non-refundable. You may go by the Business Office/Cashier at the Roane County or Oak Ridge Campus to pay your test fee. The fee can be paid the day of testing. Failure to cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours in advance will require a new testing fee. Cancellations prior to 48 hours will be allowed to retest within one academic calendar year at no charge. Please remember to keep your receipt; you are required to present it to the testing proctor on the day of your exam.
To register for the HESI, please have your R# available and see the schedule listed below. Choose the campus, date and time you wish to test and click on the Register Now button. If the date and time you pick is not shown as an option, this means the testing session is FULL and you will need to choose a different campus, date and/or time. If you experience difficulty registering online, contact Jill Robbins at firstname.lastname@example.org. PLEASE carefully input a valid phone number and email address (your Roane State email address is preferred) and double check it. You will receive important information (i.e. cancellation notification, check in procedures, etc) via email and text messaging.
ALSO NOTE: You must wait a minimum of 30 days between retakes.
If you have problems registering, please contact the Oak Ridge Testing Center.

Bring the following items. These are requirements for your testing appointment. Failure to provide any of this information may result in cancellation of your reservation and forfeiture of your testing fee.
Not allowed during testing:
Any necessary testing materials will be provided (scratch paper, pencils, calculator) by the Testing Center.
Test results will appear on the computer screen immediately after you have completed the exam. RSCC Testing Centers will not print test results. You may access your results anytime through your Evolve account which you will create at the time you take the exam. Keep a record of your Evolve account username and password so that you may refer to the account if the scores are needed at a later time. You can find information regarding viewing and ordering copies of your scores on the Evolve Student Welcome Page.
A record of your HESI Exam scores will be posted in your Raidernet account under Student Self Service. Please allow 5 - 10 business days for your record to reflect the changes.
Please Note: The scores will automatically be sent to the Allied Health Sciences and Nursing Admissions Office to be recorded in your electronic file. You do not need to notify the Nursing Admissions Office that you have completed your testing requirement.
A passing score of 75 or better is required in both Reading Comprehension and Math to be eligible for admission to the RSCC Nursing Program.
RSCC allows students to re-take the exam after a minimum 30 day wait period. (Scores from RSCC or any other institution must adhere to the above re-test procedures to be considered valid for RSCC admissions requirements and prerequisites.) Each time an exam is taken the examinee is required to pay the full fee.
