Sports rewind is a look back at recent results for Roane State’s men’s and women’s basketball teams.
Roane State men
The Raiders (14-4) remain tied with Jackson State for first place in the conference following two big wins last week.
Roane State dropped Cleveland State 80-67 on Saturday, Jan. 21. Jonathan Maybank scored a career-high 27 points, and Cedric Clinkscales tallied 19 points and 14 rebounds. Kinard Gadsden-Gilliard scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Troy Burris had 10 assists. Freshman Cameron Porter added 10 points.
The Raiders shot 58 percent for the game.
Roane State defeated Chattanooga State 65-62 on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Chattanooga State led by four with two minutes to play. Porter hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to one point, and then Clinkscales put the Raiders ahead by one with time winding down. Roane State forced a stop, and Burris iced the game with a pair of free throws.
Roane State women
The Raiderettes (10-9) fell to Cleveland State 76-61 on Saturday, Jan. 21. Kristina Stephens (12 points), Kayla Gibson (11 points) and Shannon Parks (10 points) scored in double-figures, and Jill Herman tallied eight assists.
Chattanooga State defeated Roane State 82-64 on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Herman led the team with 17 points followed by Crystal Garrett (12 points) and Takyah Gilmore (11 points).
