Why Start at Roane State?

Coming to Roane State for two years and then transferring is one of the most affordable ways to earn your bachelor’s degree.

Plus, you will have small classes, which is especially beneficial for tough subjects students usually take in their freshman or sophomore years. At a big university, you may have 100 students in your freshman biology class. At Roane State, you will have about 20 students in your freshman biology class, and your professor will know you on a first-name basis.

Roane State also offers many of the student experiences you get at four-year schools, including athletics, clubs, intramurals, theatre, music (join concert choir, Celebration Singers, jazz band, or our bluegrass band), lectures by leading scholars and speakers, movie nights, festivals, art shows, and opportunities to study abroad.

GUARANTEED ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS (ONLINE PROGRAM ONLY):

• An Associate of Science (A.S.) or Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree in Social Work with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher; AND
• A grade of “C” or higher in SWRK 2010: Introduction to Social Work AND SOCI 1040: Social Problems OR any Social Work elective (e.g., SWRK 2030: Introduction to Social Welfare and Policy), as reflected on the Tennessee Transfer Pathway for Social Work;
• AND A minimum of 60 transferable credit hours; AND
• Complete admission application by Feb 1st of the same year for fall entry

PRIORITY ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS (ONLINE PROGRAM ONLY):

• An Associate of Science (A.S.) or Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree in Social Work with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; AND
• A grade of “C” or higher in SWRK 2010: Introduction to Social Work AND SOCI 1040: Social Problems OR any Social Work elective (e.g., SWRK 2030: Introduction to Social Welfare and Policy), as reflected on the Tennessee Transfer Pathway for Social Work; AND
• A minimum of 60 transferable credit hours; AND
• Complete admission application by May 1st of the same year for fall entry

*Students applying for the online Social Work program will need to complete three essay questions. We highly recommend visiting the RSCC Learning Center to help you craft your answers. Please email one of the RSCC Contacts below for the list of essay questions.

REGULAR ADMISSION FOR LIVE KNOXVILLE PROGRAM:

Students wishing to apply for the live on campus Knoxville UTK Social Work Program will need to first apply to UTK as a transfer student and then apply to the Social Work Department. Please note the partnership is for the online program only and applying for the live program does not hold the guaranteed or priority admission status.
