The medical laboratory technician is a vital part of the health care team working under the direct supervision of a physician and/or medical technologist. Medical laboratory technicians (MLTs) perform a wider range of laboratory tests in diverse clinical settings such as a hospital, clinic, and/or a physician office. The laboratory tests are performed on body fluids including blood, sputum and stool.
This program consists of 2 semesters general course work, 3 semesters of laboratory specific coursework (with the last two semesters also consisting of clinical externship rotations). Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the National Board of Certification exam and obtain state of Tennessee licensure.
The application deadline for the MLT program has been extended to June 30, 2025.
The Intro to Med Lab Exemption Exam will be Wednesday, March 5, at 4:30pm. Anyone interested in this exam should contact Madeline Hibbard (hibbardm1@roanestate.edu) for more information.
