Grants / Scholarships

There are several different funding avenues for students who participate in the Middle College program. The Federal Pell Grant and several other financial aid programs are not available to students who are still in high school. However, the programs below are specifically designed for middle college students:

• TSAC Middle College Scholarship - Middle College students can qualify for $2,000 per semester for four semesters to help offset tuition. To qualify, students must have a 3.0 high school GPA. To retain the scholarship, students must maintain at least a 3.0 college GPA in each semester. If a student's GPA falls below a 3.0 in any semester, the scholarship will be discontinued for that student. 
   
• TN Dual Enrollment Grant - funded by the proceeds of the state lottery to assist high school students with college tuition. Previously, a 2.75 cumulative GPA was required to be awarded and maintain the scholarship. However, beginning Fall 2022, a minimum of 2.0 cumulative GPA on all postsecondary courses will be required to maintain the scholarship. 
   
• Roane State Foundation Scholarships - The Roane State Foundation helps provide scholarships for qualifying Middle College students. The Foundation is a nonprofit organization which provides financial assistance to students and programs of Roane State Community College. All funding is received through private and corporate sponsors in the community. Awards are based on need and vary by county according to available funds. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required and students must complete an application each year to be eligible. The Middle College scholarship application is accessed through the Roane State Parent Portal and is generally open March through May each year. The Foundation also provides various types of Emergency Assistance throughout the year. Please see the Foundation webpage for more information on those programs. Foundation scholarships and assistance are awarded in conjunction with all other scholarships.

• Mechatronics Middle College Grant - students enrolled in the Early and Middle College Mechatronics program are eligible for this last-dollar grant funded by the State to cover expenses related to their participation in the program. A student must first apply for the TSAC Middle College Scholarship or Dual Enrollment Grant (Early College students). All other avenues of scholarship and grant funding must be exhausted prior to these funds being applied. To retain this grant funding, students must remain in good standing with the College and fulfill all obligations and requirements of the Middle College Mechatronics program. This grant must be renewed annually by the State Legislature.

Certification

Once registered for classes, a college representative must go in to verify the student meets the eligibility requirements and the business office will apply the scholarship or grant to the student account in RaiderNet.
