All first year students, who are assigned a Success Coach and enrolled in courses, are automatically considered Mentees. As a Mentee, you have full access to Mentors, who are current students at RSCC with personal knowledge and college experience.
Mentors will reach out to you, making sure that you have been contacted and know how to contact them for questions you may have during your first year of college. This is a great opportunity to connect with returning RSCC students who have shown successful skills and abilities, which you might learn to use during challenges you may face at the college level. Our Mentors will help you adjust to the college experience at RSCC by making sure you have an enjoyable experience and have access to the resources you need to succeed.
Mentees are the biggest beneficiaries of learning what works in college from the experience and leadership of Mentors – and remember, Mentors are students who started college not long before you. You could think of Mentors as a slightly more experienced version of you, helping you learn the ropes of succeeding at Roane State.
“Through role modeling and sharing authentic stories of success and failure, the mentee gains the skills and support needed to navigate the college campus. In addition, through systematic training, the mentor gains transferable leadership skills and meaningful professional experiences that can be used to complement and positively affect the retention, academic success and educational experience of the mentee.” (Newton& Ender 2010; Terrion, & Leonard 2007).
