Major emphasis is placed upon financial need, academic achievement, and promise of future success. The 2008-2009 FAFSA is now available for students to begin filling out.

How to Receive Financial Aid
New Students
- Complete your application for admission.
- Make sure your application file is complete (check with the Admissions Office).
- You must fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
For this, do one of these:
- Stop by the campus or your high school guidance office and pick up the FAFSA form, or:
- Go to the FAFSA website at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov and fill out the form online.
(Be sure to have you and your parents appropriate tax information available when filling out the form. Roane State's Title IV School Code is 009914.)
- Pay close attention to the state aid filing deadlines – this could effect the lottery scholarship.
- The FAFSA is required if you think you are eligible for the lottery scholarships.

- Wait. When you receive your SAR (Student Aid Report), check it over for errors.
- Failure to respond to any correspondence from the Financial Aid Office in a timely manner will delay the posting of eligible awards.
Returning Students
- Re-apply for financial aid each year (FAFSA will be available in January of each year).

Identity Theft
In order to protect students from Identity Theft, the Financial Aid Office has implemented the following policy. If a student calls in requesting information about their file (example: forms needed to complete their file, holds, etc.) they will be instructed to log-in to Student Services and access the Financial Aid link. Only generic information will be given out over the phone. If a student comes into the Financial Aid Office, prior to us providing any information, we must see a photo ID.
